Also, a thing to remember is that if you are shooting a movie with students or people who work full time, younger people in the summer are easier to snag than during the rest of the year. If you tried our method with older people (ie over 30) it probably wouldn't fly, so in that case we are generally 'honest and upfront', which works cause there parts are somewhat limited usually. I just assumed you would be using the typical early 20s/late teens cast typical to much lowbudget film making.
Eidde understands what I am saying. If you allow one person to stop your movie, you have made that one person as big as the rest of your crew.
If I were a crew member on a shoot that got sabotaged by one inconsiderate actor, and my director did not seek rightful recourse, I wouldn't work for that director again, ever.
Two more points. You need to learn to make someone squirm the way they made you squirm, otherwise you'll never be a real director, but a paper mache version.
And finally, if you choose to do nothing, you must NEVER REPEAT this story again. Inevitably, people will doubt you, or wonder if you did something to **** off the actor...etc.
You either prove your point in court, or shut-up and let it eat you up over time.
Court eh. Well, I am still of the mind that if you are referring to it as your hobby, then you probably think of this as less of a business and more of an enjoyment, and as such, the mind games are part of being a low-budget director. It is actually one of my favorite parts. [img]smile.gif[/img]
Interesting point yammerman, but does anybody who makes movies as a hobby not secretly desire it to be more?

On the subject of unreliable "actors", don't even get me started. In my case, it's not so much keeping them on the project as getting them on board in the first place.
My last project was Running Like Mad, which was shot as part of a collge project. The entire media department went up to Scotland for 5 days. This was a GREAT advantage, 'cos the f?ckers couldn't go anywhere even if they wanted to, so they more or less had to stick around.
And of course, the booze was also fun, although it took quite a chunk out of our schedule due to hangovers etc. I had to cut an entire subplot from the script.
But anyway, maybe a road trip's the answer. I'm penning quite an ambitious script (for me anyway, based on something I wrote when I was 15) that I intend to shoot on next year's college outing...

You should find out where he is and offer him money to *** back and finish the job. I think you shud have made sure from the start that everyone wud see the thing through though. On the films i've worked on we always work in a small team, we all no and respect each other and make sure we see our projects through.
